Ultimately, this is a class that explores the physical art of letting go. This merges the science of physics with the pleasure we feel as humans when we are allowing gravity and the ground to hold us as opposed to holding ourselves (up) all the time. The following description is adapted to the members of each class and what they need.

Beginning with internal alignment work, a super-relaxation circuit training helpful for recovery from long-term stress, PTSD, and chronic pain. Practices that strengthen and release tight, involuntarily held muscles/fascia. We end with the activation of your body’s innate ability to heal and SHAKE IT OFF, aka neurological tremoring. You will leave this class feeling like you just had a massage from the inside or came back from vacation on the beach…

This class would be great for people who are dealing with:

  • A recent loss or change
  • A challenging work environment
  • A challenging home environment
  • Unrelenting stress
  • Tension headaches/migraines, structural pain that gets worse under stress
  • You are experiencing burnout, or stress, or have an edge you can’t seem to shake
  • PTSD or who have experienced trauma and feel lingering effects
  • High stress jobs like first responders, police officers, firemen/women
  • Chronic pain
  • You are already practicing other forms of self care, but are still struggling with pain and tension.
  • You are a highly sensitive person (HSP) and need self-care tools to help bounce back quicker from the intensity of your emotions and overwhelm being around too many people.

Your aching back, neck—and/or other body part—is not the problem. Pain is a side effect of the body’s efforts to offset mis-alignments of the skeleton causing muscles to tense up. This is compounded by the tension we hold involuntarily when we experience stress, intense situations and trauma.

By shoring up your central structure and gaining strength in the right places your weight stops getting waylaid. Muscles can then relax and engage to support your body in conjunction with the bones meant to carry it.

As a result, pain and/or tension held from stress starts melting away and the body becomes more agile and spry: it feels like you’re rolling back the clock. Align Up practices are also nurturing to the brain and nervous system, which is a huge factor in helping us bounce back easier from trauma and every day stress.

Shaking or TRE is a simple modality that releases fascia and involuntary tightening of the muscles, allowing the body to let go of cumulative stress from trauma, injuries and pain. Muscles and emotions  are gently and slowly released over time. This makes it easier to truly move on.

This class includes gentle, helpful hands-on work from Karen to help you soothe, release tension and progress your body, with very clear guidance on how to approach this work.

You’ll start where you are, and work at your own pace; absolutely no prior experience with any movement modality is necessary. We find the best ways for your body to do these movements. I strongly encourage you to take at least four classes in order to fully understand how this approach (new paradigm) works.

Dress in loose, comfortable clothing. Bring a yoga mat (if you have one) and beginner’s mind.

You can pay in person, or handle payment for class through our online store. Please select the “Thurs 6:45PM Stress Busters Class”, and enter your sliding scale price option. Then simply print your receipt and bring it with you to class.

Walk-ins are also welcome, and we do accept major credit cards on-site.
